Nikuni VDF vortex dynamic filters remove both ferrous and non-ferrous particles from CNC coolant

Nikuni VDF vortex dynamic filters will remove up to 99% of non-ferrous particles down to 25 microns, and 90% of similar particles down to 5 microns in one pass from machine tool coolant. The Nikuni VDF does not contain any moving parts or an element.

The Nikuni VDF vortex dynamic filters are hydrocyclones specifically designed to enhance the performance of machine tool coolants.  This is achieved by removing a large percentage of any metallic particles present in the flow of coolant to the tool head.

Nikuni VDF vortex dynamic filters are available in stainless steel and nylon. Flow rates available range from 20 lpm to 300 lpm

Typical VDF single pass removal performance on aluminium is:

  • 99% of all metallic particles down to 25µm
  • 98% of all metallic particles down to 15µm
  • 95% of all metallic particles down to 10µm
  • 90% of all metallic particles down to 5µm
  • 65% of all metallic particles down to 3µm

Coolant contamination (metallic particles) can be returned to a separate contaminated fluid tank or consolidated in purpose designed sludge pod and dumped at regular intervals.  Fully automated air operated sludge pod dump valves are available.

The Nikuni VDF is ideal for building into machine tools and many other items as part of original equipment using water or oil, ensuring that systems can be cleaned by this media-free technology.

The Nikuni C-CAT standalone hydrocyclone separator

The Nikuni C-CAT is a standalone maintenance-free filtration system incorporating the VDF hydrocyclone. It is fitted with its own solids tolerant pump, frame-mounted and can be either dedicated to one machine or used mobile around the plant or work-space.

The Nikuni C-CAT filtration system was developed for use with machine tools to provide a simple maintenance-free solution to clean metallic contamination from water-based coolants. It incorporates a Nikuni VDF hydrocyclone and can be retrofitted to many existing machines without major modification to the coolant system tank.

Typical Nikuni C-CAT single-pass metallic particle removal performance on aluminium in water-based coolants is:
• 99% of all metallic particles down to 25µm
• 98% of all metallic particles down to 15µm
• 95% of all metallic particles down to 10µm
• 90% of all metallic particles down to 5µm

The C-CAT can be used with either water-based or oil-based coolants. When used with oil-based coolants the higher viscosity of the oil-based coolant may require a higher than normal working pressure.

C-CAT sludge pod
A Nikuni C-CAT can also be supplied with a sludge pod, in order to accumulate and consolidate separated materials into a drier waste with little coolant.

C-CAT sludge pod benefits:
• Reduces the volume of coolant in circulation

• Reduces operational costs
• Manual or automatic operation (air-operated dump valve)

C-CAT is available as either a kit of parts for self-assembly or a fully assembled package.
